Norfolk Southern Intermodal Still Question Mark

In the wake of proposed development in Jefferson County, questions have arisen concerning Norfolk Southern’s intent regarding the proposed Intermodal site slotted to be located in the New Market area. Susan Terpay, Director of Public Relations for Norfolk Southern, would neither confirm nor deny reports that Norfolk Southern is nearing completion of the necessary property in the footprint of the proposed Intermodal site. In a previous statement, Terpay confirmed that Norfolk Southern was pursuing property in the original footprint of the site. This week she declined to address the particulars of the property acquisition citing company policy. Timing for decision making on the project is still in flux. Terpay stated that there is still no definitive timeline concerning the Intermodal project and construction of a facility will depend on future business conditions. In regard to the proposed Megasite’s impact on the Intermodal project, Terpay stated via email that if Jefferson County attracts a major manufacturer that wants to use Intermodal transportation, Norfolk Southern would certainly take that factor under consideration.
