Trainers and Fire Recruits participating in the Jefferson City Fire Recruit Academy were hard at work on Saturday putting in the long hours required to prepare for the State test later this year. Instructors and recruits will put in training hours three days per week, until the final live burn test in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Fourteen recruits representing a variety of Fire Departments, both in and out of Jefferson County, are working toward their initial certification. The Jefferson City Fire Recruit Academy is highly acclaimed and draws recruits regionally. Jim Baldwin, ACI Instructor and Master Firefighter, and a highly trained staff of Firefighter Instructors push the recruits physically and mentally to ensure that they are prepared for the rigors associated with fighting fires and serving as First Responders. Saturday, recruits performed tasks that required agility and mental acuity, while in masks and gear. The Class of 2013 Fire Recruits that successfully complete their training and final test will graduate in a formal ceremony later this Spring.
