Rush Strong Plainsmen of all ages filled the school on Thursday evening to participate in Family S.T.E.M. Night. The event was organized by sixth grade Science teacher Megan Carr and seventh/eighth grade Science teacher Susan Martin. Creative learning stations were set up in the commons area of the school that allowed student to experience the separate areas of science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E. M.). Most of the stations provided a hands on opportunity and many incorporated more than one area of S.T.E.M. subject matter. The theme of the event was Frankenweenie, the recent Disney movie that featured a Science experiment gone slightly awry.  In addition to fun food and engaging stations, there was a feature guest of the evening. Dr. Hazari’s Chemistry Magic Show was the spotlight of the night, as he wowed the crowd with the Science of Magic. The Family S.T.E.M. Night is just one of several educational outreach nights planned throughout the school year. Engaging the entire family in learning has been a recent thrust in the County, with the intention of growing an active learning community. Though Thursday’s event marked the first Family S.T.E.M. Night for the Plainsmen, it is planned to be an annual event.
