Eagles fall in home opener to Young Harris

Carson-Newman (0-2) dropped a closely contested match at no. 3 singles as Young Harris (5-0) grasped a 9-0 decision over the Eagles in their 2013 home opener.

Guilherme Frias seized a 7-5, 6-2 decision from Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) at no. 3 singles to continue a five-match win streak to start the season for the Mountain Lions.

A tough battle was also fought between the teams of Mackay/Juan Sebastian Perez (Ecuador) and Joan Valls/Guilherme Frias of YHC at no. 1 doubles before Young Harris clinched the win 8-6.

The Eagles open up conference play at home against Anderson at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
