NCAA Possibilities

You’ve probably heard the old saying, “It’s as clear as mud.”  That sums up the basketball Vols’ NCAA possibilities.  The tournament future for Cuonzo Martin’s squad is so murky I put off writing this column twice, waiting for it to clear.  It didn’t clear.  So where does it stand?

I believe the Vols need three more wins to make the NCAA tournament.  In my opinion, two wins puts them on the wrong side of the bubble, and a fourth win makes it a no brainer.  Three is the tipping point.  With two games remaining in the regular season, that means the Vols need a good end to the season and at least one SEC tournament win.  Perhaps that is a tough hill to climb, but it is very doable.  And so far, the teams on the bubble with the Vols have been cooperating by losing at a consistent clip.  Sooner or later, however, some team will step up and grab the opportunity.  The next couple of weeks will tell whether the Vols will be that team.
