TDOT Conducts Emergency Pothole Repairs I-40 Jefferson County

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is conducting emergency pothole repairs between Interstate mile markers 410-412 in Jefferson County. According to TDOT spokesman Mark Nagi, TDOT is using a process known as continuous patching to address a progressive problem of pot holes in the area. TDOT is employing the more extensive process, which requires milling of several hundred feet of problem area and replacing it with a new surface, because it is more effective in dealing with a string of holds from older, distressed pavement than traditional patching. Nagi stated in email correspondence that the area in question is planned to be resurfaced in a few months, however the overly wet winter has increased the degradation and the situation could not wait until scheduled repair. The decision was made to obtain hot asphalt from a nearby plant and mobilize the people and equipment for an emergency repair. The work began on Thursday and will continue on Friday, resulting in slower than usual traffic in the affected area.
