Eagles add Tusculum Invitational to season schedule

Carson-Newman’s men’s golf team will head to Greeneville, Tenn. to play in the Tusculum Invitational Saturday, March 9 at the Link Hill Country Club.

Carson-Newman golf coach John Minor said the Eagles decided to add this tournament at the last minute and hope to use it to not snag a win, but to get some practice rounds in.

“We are playing this weekend because we need more rounds under our belt because of the weather,” Minor said, “It is an opportunity for us to better prepare for next week at Georgia College’s Bobcat Invitational as well as future tournaments.”

The tournament will include South Atlantic Conference opponents Anderson University, Lincoln Memorial University, Mars Hill and Tusculum College. A slew of other DII schools will compete including Bluefield State College, Limestone College and Tiffin University. Other participants will be Marian University (Ind.), Milligan College, Parkland College, USC Lancaster, Spartanburg Methodist College, Tennessee Wesleyan College, Virginia Intermont College and Walters State College.

“We need the work and we are excited about going to Link Hills with an opportunity to build on our last event,” Minor said.

Four of the teams in this year’s tournament field are ranked in the top 50 in the latest Golfstat head-to-head standings including the no. 33 Eagles. Marian comes in at no. 25 (NAIA). LMU is 30th (NCAA II) and Milligan is ranked 40th (NAIA)

The first round will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by Sunday’s final round which is expected to begging at 8 a.m. on the par 71, 6,733-yard lay-out.
