Jefferson County Population Changes

The State of Tennessee has released its population projections for individual counties across the State through the year 2020. According to the Division of Health Statistics State of Tennessee Department of Health, Jefferson County is currently on target to have an influx of around 4,000 residents between 2013 and 2020. The largest growth areas are slotted to be in children and young adults. There is also a significant increase in the ages above 70, which can be attributed to baby boomers aging into the currently lower senior category. Jefferson County 2013 has a relatively small demographic of adults in their late twenties through their thirties. In the year 2020, the projections are that the number of late twenties in the County will increase, however those in their mid thirties are still a lower demographic. Interestingly, the decades that follow show strong numbers for the year 2020, as do the young child bracket, which could indicated a continued trend in young and late parenting. Unlike the decades of the 1990s and 2000, when the population in the County exploded, Jefferson County population projection is on par with the State of Tennessee. There is no great project change in racial demographic in the year 2020 and any small increases are projected in areas other than African American. The total Jefferson County population projection for the year 2020 is 58,449, with the majority of residents being white females. The largest independent demographic in 2020 will be in white males age 15-19, followed closely by white females age 15-19, which are also the largest independent demographics in the current year. It is notable that residents at Mountain View Youth Development Center, which are male and largely fall in the 15-19 age bracket, are included in Jefferson County Census Projections.
