Monday Night Budget Committee

The Jefferson County Budget Committee met on Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse.  The Meeting was Called to Order by Chairman Griffith. Upon a Motion from Committee Member Akard and 2nd from Committee Member Carmichael the Minutes were Approved.

Jefferson County Director of Finance Helton presented the Committee with 4 Budget Amendments. Schools General Purpose Fund Budget Amendment #5 included a $100,000 impact on School System fund balance for Diesel and gasoline and was part of the reduction that was made during the last budgeting season to accommodate requested budget cuts. Akard made a Motion to Approve and was 2nd by Committee Member Beeler-Passed with Cureton voting No.

Schools General Purpose Fund Amendment #6 included a positive impact of $10,000 from White Pine School to go into the Fund’s legal line as contribution concerning a recent settlement in a copier legal suit. It was Approved with a Motion from Akard and 2nd from Dockery.

The Schools Federal Funds Budget Amendment #6 had no fund balance impact and recognized grants and other housekeeping items. Committee Member Akard made a Motion to Approve and was 2nd by Carmichael and Passed Unanimously.

County General Fund 101 Budget Amendment #6 had no fund balance impact. It was Approved via a Motion from Committee Member Maples and 2nd from Akard.

The Committee was addressed by Director of Business Affairs and Transportation for Jefferson County Schools Phagan. He stated that he would be bringing a funding request for school buses, should the request be approved by the School Board at their voting meeting. If the request is approved by the School Board, it will come before the Budget Committee prior to the County Commission voting meeting.

Sanitation Supervisor Hubbard informed the Committee that he has suffered a loss of revenue from the defection of Tidi Waste and may be forced to move funds to accommodate the loss. The issue will be addressed more fully at the next meeting.  The Meeting was Adjourned.
