Hefner garners second SAC player of the week honor

Carson-Newman shortstop Brittany Hefner (Talbot, Tenn.) has won her second SAC player of the week award in three weeks following a turgid offensive performance away from the Lady Eagle Softball Complex,

Hefner continued her solid year at the dish by hitting .571 with eight hits and eight RBI in four games for the Eagles last week. She had multiple hits in three of the four games, including a two-home run, seven-RBI performance on Wednesday in a loss at Columbus St.

Hefner was an RBI shy of matching her own school record set earlier this year.
The shortstop struck out only once on the week while posting an on-base percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of 1.071.
Hefner currently leads the SAC with a .451 batting average, 11 home runs and 49 RBI.

With 22 regular season games remaining, Hefner is on pace to obliterate the conference’s and Carson-Newman’s record for RBI. Staci Fish (C-N 2001) holds that mark with 72. At her present pace, she would also finish in the top three on the SAC’s single season record books for doubles and home runs as well.

Hefner and the rest of the Eagles return to the Lady Eagle Softball Complex Wednesday for a conference doubleheader with LMU at 2 p.m..
