Wasps Are Back

After only a few warm days, I have noticed that the wasps are hanging around. I live in a brick home and we had a lot of trouble with wasps last year. I would love any suggestions for deterring them. We are hoping that if we start early enough we might keep from being overrun by the stinging little buggers.

There are several different varieties of wasps but I am assuming that you are writing about the traditional wasp, rather than yellow jackets. Wasps are fairly territorial, according to experts, and generally do not like to build where there is already an established nest. A fake hornet’s nest can be purchased from local garden supply stores and hung in a place near your heaviest wasp infestation area. This might deter them from building near the fake nest. There are also a variety of chemicals that can be purchased for home treatment. If there are several wasps concentrated in an area, it might be prudent to contact a professional exterminator to deal with the problem. The professional chemicals last much longer and a professional will have better equipment to reach favorite nest building spots. Remember that wasps can pack a mighty sting and the best approach is always to put safety first.
