How To Help Your Child Enjoy School

What can you do to help your child enjoy school?  As research verifies, a critical factor in a child’s educational success is parent involvement. A positive connection between home and school creates an atmosphere that enhances your child’s educational career.  So… what are some possibilities of ways you might volunteer at school?

  • assemble parent packets
  • assist with a classroom party
  • be active in the PTO
  • build shelves and/or other needed items
  • chaperone a field trip
  • collect recyclables for art
  • find donated materials for art projects
  • help during lunch time
  • help prepare for activities
  • help supervise the class
  • listen to children read
  • make copies
  • read to the class
  • repair broken playground equipment
  • share a special skill
  • work with individual children
  • work with small groups

As a Parent Volunteer follow these rules:

  • be on time
  • practice confidentiality as it is inappropriate to share behavioral or academic information about children in the class
  • maintain a positive, upbeat attitude when working with children
  • have fun with the children and enjoy time spend in the classroom
