Easter Egg Safety

My children are anxiously awaiting coloring Easter eggs. We will go on an egg hunt on Saturday and another on Sunday. The kids are always wanting to eat the eggs that they dye and I was wondering if it is safe for them to eat the eggs after the hunts?

According to the USDA, eggs should be consumed within two hours of cooking. If your kids are hiding the eggs, they should be refrigerated right up until the time of the hunt and they should not consume any eggs that have been cracked or hidden in unclean locations. All cracked eggs should be thrown away because bacteria can set in and cause serious illness if touched or consumed. The USDA suggests coloring two sets of eggs with food grade dye-one for hunting and one for eating. The eggs that will be consumed should stay in the refrigerator until they are ready to be eaten and the life of the hard cooked egg that is continually refrigerated is around 4 days, according to the USDA
