Nominating Committee Meeting Falls Short of Quorum

Five members of the Jefferson County Nominating Committee were present for a Called Meeting on April 2, 2013, that was the result of a request by seven Nominating Committee Members following the March 18, 2013 County Commission meeting. Actions surrounding the meeting call and alleged Open Meeting Act violation were the subject of a recent letter from the Tennessee Comptroller’s Open Meetings Counsel, which was sent to both Commission Chairman Mills and Nominating Committee Chairman Tucker. The agenda listed Discussion and Action related to the Chairman of the Nominating Committee and Discussion and Action related to Nominating Committee meeting times. 10 members sit on the Nominating Committee and a quorum of six was needed to call the meeting to order. As no quorum was present, no meeting was held. Of the 10 Committee Members, Committee Members Sheets, Musick, Solomon, Turner and Estes were present. Absent were Committee Members Patterson, Scarlett, Kesterson, Barreiro and Tucker. Another Nominating Committee meeting is scheduled for April 8, 2013 in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse.
