Remember Playing Outside?

Do you remember when playing outside was an everyday occurrence rather than a treat? Do you remember when testing was reserved for graduating high school and elementary students did not carry back packs that are destined to give them back problems that are generally associated with playing on the line on a football team? When I was a child, there just didn’t seem to be the pressure that kids feel today. Our jobs were to go to school during the day, help out at home and have fun. Not always in that order and certainly not prioritized that way. We watched very little television and, though I have nothing against technology, we were able to burn off a lot of childhood anxiety running through the yard and climbing trees. When did bike riding become a sport? We rode bikes as a means of transportation from one adventure to another. And, sometimes we used our bikes as vehicles in our attempt to take flight via a well positioned plank ramp. Yes, we had our fair share of stitches and they left a couple of interesting scars but they also created a couple of great memories. Now that the weather has improved, it is time for the windows to open and let the sunshine and fresh air in. And let the kids go outside…they just might find that they like it!
