Mother’s Day Memories

Mother’s Day is the day we pay tribute to the mother who gave us life and love.  Of course, we love and appreciate our mother every day, but today is that special day that comes once a year.  This day is filled with memories, not only of our mother, but past Mother’s Day gifts and celebrations.

As a mother, I have many fond memories of gifts from my children and their father. The home made cards were pieces of art and treasured like jewels.  The home gifts were cherished.  But, the best of all was the joy and excitement on my children’s faces when they gave me their gifts.  Their little faces told me how much they loved me.

And, how could I forget the many breakfasts served in bed.  They were priceless.  Dad and children were partners in this endeavor.  Hearing little feet running down the hall and finding my husband was also up, left little to be surprised about, but keeping with the spirit of the morning, I pretended sleep until the crew came bouncing into my room with their goodies made of love.

My children are now grown and have children of their own… and Mother’s Day continues to bring wonderful memories. Not only do I get heartfelt cards, I get home made ones… from my precious grandchildren… what a delight!

As a child, I was the excited one, working for days to give the perfect gift and card to show my Mom how much she was loved.  And through the years, each  Mother’s Day offered a new opportunity to tell my mother how very much she was loved.  This  Mother’s Day my mother is with me only in my heart and memories.  I miss her her every day.  I still go to the phone to call her for advice or just to connect to her to lift my spirits. I cherish those memories.

My hope for this day is that all mothers feel loved and know they are honored by those they love.  All children… remember your mother.  Have a wonderful day reliving old memories and making new ones.  Happy Mother’s Day!
