The Jefferson County Rescue Squad hit a milestone birthday this weekend, as it turned one half a century old. In celebration of five decades of service, the Rescue Squad welcomed the public on Saturday to get an overview of their operation and enjoy some time listening to great music and talking with squad members. The Jefferson County Rescue Squad was founded in May of 1963 and it is comprised of 100% volunteer members that dedicate their time in service to Jefferson County. In addition to assisting in First Responder calls, the Squad has a Dive Rescue Team, High and Low Angle Rescue Team, Technical Rescue Team and Hazardous Materials Rescue Team. All team members are trained in first aid, CPR and basic vehicle extraction, however many are EMTs, Paramedics, First Responders and trainers for CPR and Vehicle Extraction. The Volunteer Members dedicated numerous hours every week to the service of their community and the fifty year tradition of excellence has proven their half a century of committment to be golden.
