Same Old Delima

Summer is here… weather and all.  Even though it is not officially summer, school is out, Memorial Day has past… and for me that means summer! I’m just a little worried this summer!  As we all know, summer means vacation… and vacation for my family means the beach!  Yes, each summer, we all enjoy a week at the beach, together.  While this is not usually the only vacation the kids and their families take during the summer, it is my one and only trip, during those hot days.

What is my worry?  I usually have reservations by now, but this year… not so!  First, let me say that we like a three or four bedroom condo with amenities, not a house.  Being harder to find (what retired couple needs to buy that many bedrooms?), it becomes necessary to start the search early.  It would be so easy, if we went to the same beach each year, but I like a variety. (I remember the first time I rebelled, and planned our vacation around several stops in Florida, instead of the usual, Myrtle Beach.  I experienced mutiny, among the sun goers, including my husband. Sticking to my guns, we headed out to explore the wonders of the fountain of youth, St Augustine’s cobble streets and fort, Disney and, of course, a beach. The trip was memorable for all.)

Well… back to my present dilemma.  The problem this year was in working around everyone’s schedule.  May was out, due to May term for a college student. My granddaughter has three, one week camps… and on and on.  School starts back in August, leaving only a few possibilities.  And… those possibilities are very popular weeks.  I am finding “there is no room at the inn”, so what to do?

Maybe this would be a good time to go back to Maine (I love Maine), or back to New Orleans (it’s so hot now).  I would love to go on a road trip to California again!  But no… it must be the beach!

So, what to do?  My daughter says, “have no fear, I can find a place”.  And, she most probably will pull the perfect condo from her magic hat, as she has done before!  So, hopefully we will find ourselves on the beach basking in the sun, sometime this summer.  Or, under an umbrella… lathered with sun screen… keeping the brown spots at bay!
