Jefferson County Director of Schools, Dr. Charles Edmonds, members of the Jefferson County School Board, County Commissioners, local dignitaries and members of the public attended a ground breaking ceremony at Jefferson County High School Friday morning. The ceremony was the official start of extensive renovations to the Jefferson County High School Main Campus. Jefferson County’s flagship school will receive a facelift and additions that have been several years in the planning. Unofficially, work on the facility began earlier this month, however Friday’s event presented the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the start of, what is expected to be, a two year project that will address the needs of the comprehensive High School. Construction will be in high gear during the Summer months, when the school building is not in use, and plans are in place to accommodate student needs when school reconvenes in August. Director Edmonds has issued thanks to the faculty, staff and students at Jefferson County High School for their support and patience during the life of the renovation project. Spirits were high on Friday morning, as the group put shovel to dirt and officially welcomed the beginning of a new era at Jefferson County High School.
