The Knoxville Zoo managed to bring the fun of a “Galaxy Far, Far Away” to a local audience this past Saturday, June 15, 2013, with their Star Wars day. Zoo-goers both young and old were encouraged to throw on their Star Wars regalia and enjoy a day at the Knoxville Zoo, where conversation ranged from the exotic creatures to the best place to buy costumes. Lightsabers and blasters were aplenty, and many children were shown the proper way to hone their Jedi and Imperial skills, though the zoo’s furry, scaly, and befeathered residents were still showered with adoring attention. Whether it was the Stormtroopers clad in full battle armor or the children carrying stuffed replicas of the animal they just observed, the combination of these two seemingly unrelated themes certainly brought happiness to many, and spirits were high, despite the equally-high temperature. Judging by the amount of attendees, the event seemed to be a rousing success, and will likely serve to encourage the Knoxville Zoo to have similar events in the future: if such a day sounds exciting, be sure to stay on the lookout for more events. A pleasant, friendly mood was in the air all afternoon, as zoo-goers, both Star Wars fans and not, watched, ate, drank, and relaxed at the zoo’s water-themed attractions, signaling a victorious day for Jedi, Sith, and everyday visitors, alike.
