Eagles land 80 on SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Carson-Newman University has placed 80 students on the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, an increase of 12 percent from last year’s total of 71.

To be eligible for inclusion on the honor roll, student-athletes must have lettered in a varsity SAC-sponsored sport and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher throughout the academic year.

Carson-Newman’s cross country team led the charge with 13 selections, including Eagle Club Academic Female Athlete of the Year Hannah Reese and her 3.97 grade point average.

The Eagle football team touted 11 selections, including Eagle Club Academic Male Athlete of the Year Zach Witherspoon.

The Carson-Newman baseball team added 10 picks.

The C-N volleyball team had the highest percentage of players listed on the honor roll.  Nine of the Eagles’ roster of 15 wound up on the team – 60 percent. The C-N spikers were led by Kirby Ellis and Sara Fairley’s 4.0s.

The women’s soccer program added eight selections, while men’s soccer and men’s golf had six picks apiece.  Softball, women’s golf and men’s tennis had four, each.  The women’s tennis team touted C-N Academic Athlete of the Year Tiffany Delias’ 4.0 GPA.

Women’s basketball rounded out the selections with two.
