Information on July 1 Uniform Commercial Code Changes Now Available on Secretary of State’s Web Site

The Secretary of State has posted information on statute, rules and system changes affecting Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings in Tennessee. The information is available on the Secretary of State’s web site at http://tnbear.tn.gov/UCC.

Changes to Tennessee’s UCC statutes take effect July 1. The Secretary of State’s office will activate its new UCC filing system on that date as well. These changes will require the use of new procedures and forms. The changes will also provide customers new online options such as UCC filings and searches.

The UCC Services Online web page includes a posting of the new UCC statute and new UCC rules. The web page also offers training videos for customers who plan on using the new online filing system that will be available to users on July 1. The Secretary of State’s office will post more information at this site as the July 1 effective date draws closer.

Since the new statute requires the use of new UCC forms, the UCC Services Online web page will include links to those new forms as soon as they become effective. UCC filers should be aware that as of July 1, they can file UCC forms in Tennessee only by using the new forms, or by using the online filing services available on July 1.

“I know our UCC filing customers will visit the UCC Services Online web page frequently in the coming days,” said Secretary of State Tre Hargett. “Our new system is just one example of the ways we can provide valuable assistance to our customers. I am confident our efforts will provide essential support to our customers as they navigate the new laws.”
