PUBLIC NOTICE – Nominating Committee Seeking 2 Jefferson County Citizens to serve on Audit Committee

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Nominating Committee of the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners is looking for two (2) Jefferson County citizens to serve voluntarily on the Audit Committee.

The Audit Committee consists of five (5) members, three (3) members of the County Commission who are appointed Commission Chairman, Finance Committee Chairman, and Budget Committee Chairman, and two (2) citizens.  Citizen members are appointed by the County Legislative Body to serve 2-year terms.

Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 9-3-405 and Jefferson County, Tennessee, Board of Commissioners Resolution 2013-08, the Audit Committee was established to provide independent review and oversight of the county’s financial reporting processes and the county’s internal controls, a review of the external auditor’s report and follow-up on management’s corrective action, and compliance with laws, regulations, and ethics.

To ensure the committee’s independence and effectiveness, no Audit Committee member will be an elected official (with the exception of elected County Commissioners), employee, spouse of an official/employee, or person that comingles assets with an official/employee of Jefferson County.

The deadline to apply for consideration for the current vacancies is Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 3:00 p.m.
