Jefferson County students are participating in a camp of a different kind this week, as the second session of Camp Invention came to Maury Middle School. The week long interactive learning experience is a part of Project STEM, which focuses on enrichment in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Campers are rising 4th, 5th and 6th grade students from across the County. Jefferson Middle School was the site of the first session of the camp and it was a highly successful endeavor that received good reviews from both parents and campers. All indications are that the Maury session will be met with similar accolades, if the early response from campers and parents is any indication. Campers will spend the week in a well rounded, hands on program that encourages physical, as well as mental, activities that will expand the camper’s appreciation for the STEM areas. The camp is a part of a grant program and was offered at no cost to interested students and camp instructors are Jefferson County teachers. From building a robot to science experiments to exciting games that that challenge the camper’s problem solving skills, every minute of the 3 ½ hour daily experience is packed with enrichment wrapped in fun.
