Sawyer Brown Coming to Pigeon Forge

Sawyer Brown 400Sawyer Brown, a band often referred to as the Rolling Stones of country music, is coming to Pigeon Forge where they will perform at Country Tonight, on the Parkway, July 5.

The band exploded onto the music scene in the early 80s on the popularly nationally televised TV talent show, “Star Search” hosted by Ed McMahan. They won the competition taking home $100,000 and a record contract. In the 30 years since, Sawyer Brown has performed more than 4,000 concerts and continues to create fresh, fun and relevant songs that challenge themselves.

The band is known for such memorable songs such as; “Step That Step”, “Betty’s Bein’ Bad”, “Some Girls Do”, “Thank God for You”, “The Dirt Road” and the classic “The Walk.” Their shows are legendary for the level of excitement, energy and emotion they generate.

“Of all the songs we have performed, “The walk” is my favorite,” said keyboardist Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard. “It’s a song that speaks to everyone. At one time or another we will find ourselves in some part of that song.”

“The walk” is the story of a man and his son and the changes they experience together on the journey through life. The song begins with the father taking his young, frightened son to the bus stop for his first day of school and reassuring the child with the encouraging words “I’ve took this walk you’re walking now, boy, I’ve been in your shoes.” In the final verse of the song the man and his son are much older. “He had grown old and gray and his mind was a wonderin’.” Again, the father reassures his son with words of encouragement and wisdom telling him “I know where were going, son, and I understand. Don’t worry boy it will be alright.”

“The walk” is one of the band’s 50 singles that have entered the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including three Number One singles. Sawyer Brown has released twenty studio albums, of which three have been certified gold in the United States for sales of 500,000 copies. The band has been the recipient of a Horizon Award from the Country Music Association, as well as a Vocal Group of the Year award in 1997 from the Academy of Country Music and 5 Vocal Band Of The Year Awards from the TNN Music City News Country Awards.

“We are excited to be back in Pigeon Forge,” Hubbard said. “We have never performed at Country Tonite before but we have played at Dollywood. We look forward to meeting all the fans there. It’s going to be an exciting show.”

The show is produced by First Class Productions and tickets are on sale now and selling fast. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or by calling 1-800-792-4308 or 865-453-2003.
