The children of the Jefferson  City area were treated to an afternoon of learning, fun, and the almost magical workings of the earth and science this past Friday, June 28, at the Jefferson City Public Library. Children who attended the 2 p.m. event were visited by Bond the Science Man, who showed the kids that learning how the world works can be fascinating and fun, and that learning certainly isn’t constrained to a classroom. Using such simple props as a collapsible ball (an icosidodecahedron, for the more geometrically-inclined), an iron bowl, and the audience, itself, he demonstrated everything from the cause of gravity to the way magnets work, seemingly complicated principles that are made easy to understand, thanks to a fun, interactive event for children in the community. The event was, of course, designed to promote learning and the enjoyment of reading for the future generation, and if the children’s smiles and laughter were any indication, the show was a big hit with both parents and the younger audience members. The science day was by no means the library’s only event, and the nature of the events are varied in order to make sure that everybody has something coming up that they can enjoy. Be sure to stay up-to-date with the library’s future events for more days of fun and enjoyable discovery.
