Crunchy Hamburgers
As I was trying to decide what to cook for dinner the other night (only having ground beef on hand), I remembered a favorite meal from my childhood. My mom would coat hamburger patties in cracker crumbs and lightly fry them in a skillet. As a child, I liked these better than regular hamburgers on a bun, and after having them again after many, many years, I still do.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 sleeve saltine crackers (with salt)
1 egg
2 T milk
½ t salt
¼ t onion powder
¼ t pepper
1 T vegetable oil
1 T butter
Place beef in a bowl and mix in salt, pepper, and onion powder. Shape into 4 – 6 patties, approximately ½” thick.
Crush crackers and place in shallow bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg and milk. Dip beef patties in egg mixture then place in crackers and press to adhere crumbs to patties.
Set a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place oil and butter in skillet. Once butter has melted, place patties in skillet and cover. Cook about 3 minutes each side, until golden brown. Remove to serving plate.
