Commission Work Session Prepares for Upcoming Budget Vote

The Jefferson County Commission met in a brief Work Session on Monday, July 8, 2013. Jefferson County Mayor Palmieri informed Commission Members that there would be an opening on the Board of Health due to a current member, Dr. Green, moving out of County. The Mayor will recommend Dr. Regina Fields for the open position and will request Commission confirmation. He also stated that current Building Inspector David Gaut will be moving to the Sanitation Department. Palmieri commended Gaut on his job performance and said that he will name a person to fill Gaut’s vacated position and request Commission confirmation.

Budget Committee Chairman Griffith informed the Commission that the Budget Committee will bring their recommended budget proposal for fiscal year 2013-2014 at the next voting meeting. He stated that there may also be an amendment concerning increased rent for the Jefferson County Finance Office.

Commissioner Estes stepped in for absentee Finance Committee Chairman Cureton and stated that the Finance Committee rolled their agenda to the next meeting due to several absent members.

Facilities Committee Chairman Turner informed the Commission that the Committee will bring a recommendation to send the former New Market Ambulance Station to auction with Hayes and Associates.

Nominating Committee Chairman Tucker stated that the Committee will bring two citizens as recommendations for the new audit committee- Gary Jett and Joe High. They will also bring Debra Scarlett as a recommendation for the Library Board.

There was no new or old business for consideration.
