EUGENE “LYNN” FLOYD

EUGENE “LYNN” FLOYD was born July 2, 1933 in Alexandria, LA, the firstborn of James D. & Nellie Doyle Floyd. He was raised in Louisiana, living in several different towns and graduated high school in Bossier City in 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and did sea duty on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany. His service included time with the naval support of the Korean Conflict. After the truce he was stationed on Guam and was involved in the Navy football league. Following his Honorable Discharge in May of 1957 he entered the University of Utah and played football one year. He then went to work at the Tooele Army Depot outside Salt Lake City. He retired in 1988 after 30 years and attaining the G-7 federal employee level. Upon retirement he moved to Dandridge TN to be with his elderly mother, Nellie Thornton. In 2004, following a heart attack and surgery, he moved to Darby House, an assisted living facility in Jefferson City. Just this year he moved to Emeritus Assisted Living in Oak Ridge for 5 months before moving to the Ben Atchley State Veterans Home in Karns. Following a series of declining health issues, Lynn died Thursday October 25, 2012 in Park West Medical Center in Knoxville, TN at age 79. During his working life he went through many training classes and was highly thought of in his work. He was an avid skier and a long-time member of the Usqabaugh Ski Club in Salt Lake City. Fishing was also a major interest and avocation. Lynn was never married. He is preceded in death by his father, James D Floyd; his mother Nellie Doyle Floyd Thornton; his younger brother James Douglas “JD” Floyd; his step-father Jimmie Thornton; and his aunt Jean Doyle Glover.He is survived by cousins,David Glover of Oak Ridge, Paul Glover of Huntsville AL, Stephen Glover of Cookeville TN, and Mary Edna (Glover) Lafata of Detroit MI; very close friends in Salt Lake City were like family and survive Lynn: Jane Stringfellow Burks, Esther Stringfellow, Ann Stringfellow Lisetor and Wendell Stringfellow. A graveside service will be observed on Saturday, November 3 at 11:00 at the Seahorn Chapel Cemetery in Dandridge. He will be inurned next to his mother and step-father. Cousin Rev.
