Jefferson County School Board Hold Work Session

The Jefferson County School Board met in a work session on Thursday, July 11, 2013. Previously, the Board had planned to assess the fly box space at Gentry Auditorium on Carson-Newman University and the meeting had been scheduled accordingly. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Board was unable to view the fly box space, however, the issue was addressed during the meeting. David Seal, who has been instrumental in determining the needs regarding backstage functionality, presented the Board with some requests including lift system and lighting needs, as well as control booth specifications. A suggestion was made to contact an architect that specializes in modern theater to provide input for the project. Following discussion about significant cost differences if the proposed fly box space is added later in the renovation project or after the project has concluded, rather than at the inception of the project, the Board requested an itemized cost of the fly box, including outfitting the addition, to be available at their next meeting.

A roofing representative addressed the Board concerning warranty options available for hail damage, which are less than initially reported but more substantial than the current warranty. The Board also discussed the current Building 8 roofing collapse at Jefferson County High School and was informed that no classes will be held in Building 8 during the upcoming school year. Classes scheduled for Building 8 will be reworked into other parts of the school. The Board thanked First Responders for their work and dedication during the recent situation at Jefferson County High School.
