Strudwick wants challenge for Eagles with fall 2013 schedule

Carson-Newman head women’s golf coach Suzanne Strudwick will have the Eagles’ women’s golfers flying to parts unknown in the fall of 2013.

“We’re changing a bit of our schedule for the fall and spring to test the girls more,” Strudwick said. “In order to do that, we’ll be playing some of the higher ranked schools in Florida.”

New to the schedule is a trip to West Palm Beach, Fla., and the Guy Harvey Invitational at the PGA National Oct. 6-7.  The resort is the home to the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic and has also played host to several Ryder Cups.  Top-ranked Nova Southeastern plays host to the event.

“The PGA National will test our girls to the highest levels,” Strudwick said. “I want our team to experience what it’s like to play on a high caliber course to test and show them what’s required from them to prepare for the spring.”

Once again, Carson-Newman opens its campaign with the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate Sept. 9-10.

“The Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate is so much fun because it’s also our conference championship,” Strudwick said. “Again we start at a tough course that will challenge the players for the fall. It’s so tough off the tee box and on the greens.  You have to hit it long and straight, and you have to be a good putter.”

The Eagles round out the fall with trips to the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C. and the Flagler Fall Slam
