It is only the month of July, but for many children in our area, Saturday was better than Christmas.  The Captive Free Ministries hosted the Back –to- School bash on Saturday July 27, 2013. The event was set to begin at 11, but knowing that the lines would be long, participants began lining up at 7 am. While waiting in line, the D.J. kept the mood light with laughter and the crowd dancing and cheering. Many businesses throughout the community helped sponsor this large event.

Participants were greeted with free hot dogs and water & juice, as well as a clothing ministry which offered clothing for multiple ages and sizes.  Children were given school supplies and there were 382 pairs of new shoes & socks given out, which unfortunately was not enough for the nearly 600 children who attended this year.

This event has been growing each year, with the turn out larger this year than ever. In light of the communities economic needs, the ministry plans to begin accepting donations again immediately in anticipation of next year’s event. They also host a free clothing ministry each month to help anyone with a need. The requirements are to just show up. There is no set county, income, nor do you have to be a member of their church.
