JCHS Waiting On “All Clear” From Engineers

The Jefferson County Department of Education released the following statement this morning regarding the evaluation process currently under way at Jefferson County High School.

In light of the recent roof collapse of building 8, we are taking extra precaution to make sure that we don’t have any structural issues in any part of the main building of Jefferson County High School. No students or staff will be in any part of building 8. We have engaged the services of structural engineers and an architect to perform a complete evaluation to alleviate any concerns about safety for students and staff. We will not occupy any space in the high school until we have full clearance from the structural engineer. If any corrective measures are identified, they will be performed immediately. We should have confirmation on the status of the inspections and any needed corrective action by Monday, but no later than Tuesday. The engineers and architect are working through the weekend to make sure the evaluation is complete and any needed corrective action is done. School staff is permitted to continue working in the commons area, administrative offices and the gymnasium area.

Thank you.

Dr. Charles Edmonds, Director of Schools
