East Tennessee’s own, Janelle Arthur is on the road with the American Idol tour.

The American Idol finalists will be performing in Knoxville Tuesday August 6, at the Thompson Boling Arena. The concert will feature the top ten finalists as well as the winner of season 12, Candice Glover. The Knoxville concert is the eighth stop in a 30 city tour for the Idol finalists.

Among the finalists is East Tennessee’s own, Janelle Arthur, of Oliver Springs. Arthur appeared on the show for three years before finally breaking into the finals. Arthur has performed locally at Country Tonite in Pigeon Forge. She will be performing later this year at the Foothills Fall Festival in Maryville with Rascal Flatts.

Arthur began singing at a very early age. She drew her influences from a number of artists particularly Vince Gill.

I was always a big fan of Vince Gill,” Arthur said. “I started listening to him when I was 18-months–old. My mother would play his music for me. I always wanted to perform with him. Hopefully that day will come.”

The Idol finalists will perform a 90-minute concert during which all the performers will showcase their talents. Arthur will perform two songs solo and as a part of a trio. She will perform back-up throughout the remainder of the show.

Once the tour is over Arthur plans to return to Nashville where she would like to write some songs and record a CD.

I have CDs available at Country Tonite,” said Arthur. “They were covers of other artists’ songs. I would like to record my own material and keep it going.”

The third time was the charm for Arthur who failed to make it to the coveted finalists pick twice in as many years. Arthur has some advice for up and coming performers who hope to make the cut on the popular reality show.

You have to be doing what you want to do,” said Arthur. “Success isn’t about money or fame it’s about loving what you do and being happy with it. Don’t stop trying. If will happen if it was meant to.”
