For the first time in more that 30 years, Jefferson County High School Main Campus is not the home to the freshman class. On Thursday, August 8, 2013 the Class of 2017 became the first class to inhabit the new Patriot Academy. After an early evening ribbon cutting ceremony, the school was opened to the public to tour. Director of Jefferson County Department of Education, Dr. Charles Edmonds, addressed the crowd and expressed his appreciation to the County Officials, citizens, staff and students for their support and encouragement during the building of the new off site academy. The Patriot Academy will function as an arm of Jefferson County High School and students will participate in Main Campus activities, while moving through their freshman year. The concept of a freshman academy was already instituted at Jefferson County High School and the Class of 2017 will also participate in the team teaching concept at the new facility. Students were on hand during the ribbon cutting and tour, serving refreshments and graciously interacting with the pubic.
