As Football Season opens up in Tennessee, the Jefferson County Patriots introduced their 2013 freshman and varsity team to fans on Saturday. Prior to meeting the Patriots, there were scrimmages between middle schools teams. The teams represented were the Catholic Irish, the Cosby Eagles, Dandridge’s own Maury Hornets, and the Jefferson Middle School Elks. The opening game of the day was between Maury and the Cosby Eagles, where Maury forged the first victory of the day. In the second game, Jefferson Middle squared off against the Catholic Irish. Despite a great effort by the Elks, the Irish had a decisive victory, with both of their offense and defense proving to be major powerhouses. Jefferson Middle and Cosby held the third match where Jefferson Middle put up a valiant struggle, however Cosby pulled through for the win in the end.  The final match of middle school scrimmages was between the Catholic Irish and Maury before the younger players took the field to show their talent. Meet the Patriots was a great indication that football time in Jefferson County should be a frenzied fight to the finish and proved that talent in the County runs deep. Jefferson County Patriots will soon be on the field, however they will take to the road for the first snap of 2013. The opening game of the season will be on August 30th at Knoxville Central High School.
