The Jefferson County Urban Growth Committee met last week to discuss the previously proposed adjustments to the local municipalities (excepting Baneberry) growth boundaries. Jefferson County Mayor Palmieri presided over the meeting and the entire body, minus Committee Member Jay Mosier, was present. Jefferson City Mayor Potts stated that the City is requesting areas that will clean up property lines, as did White Pine Mayor Wilder. New Market is also seeking to clean up fringe areas, with some expansion east of Town and Dandridge Mayor Gantte stated that the Town’s request would the include exit 424 area.

Jefferson City Mayor Potts made a Motion to proceed forward with the two Public Hearings necessary to extend the growth boundaries in the requested areas. He was 2nd by White Pine Mayor Wilder and the Motion Passed Unanimously.

City/County Planner Williams was introduced by Jefferson County Zoning Department Head Seals. Williams stated that it will require 2 public hearings with a 15 day public notice and an approved resolution that will go before the County Commission and the local municipalities for ratification.  Jefferson County Mayor Palmieri requested information on options available to the municipalities, should the County Commission deny ratification of the resolution. Williams stated that there are option possibilities, however it is suggested that mediation and negotiation start at the local level.
