Dandridge Elementary School held their open house night on Thursday, August 15, and was kicked off with a short announcement in the Claudia Sisk memorial reading room, known as Claudia’s Corner. Principle Tommy Arnold spoke to parents and children about the room, mentioning the financial contributions to the room’s overhaul, as well as all of the hard work that citizens volunteered in order to procure books and provide the reading room with its unique Dr. Seuss-themed paint job. Children were encouraged to read, socialize, and, along with their parents, enjoy the refreshments that were provided. The turnout for both the short address and the open house as a whole was substantial, as the school’s hallways teemed with excited children and involved parents heading from room to room. The attendees were not only included children, parents, and staff, but also a surprisingly large turnout of citizens of the surrounding area that simply took an active interest into the wellbeing of the community school, as well as honoring a beloved teacher who dedicated her life to educating children and advocated instilling children with a love for books as early as possible. Dandridge Elementary School’s open house night was a rousing success, as it eased the way into the new school year for students and parents and brought a great deal of attention to Claudia’s Corner: a much-loved addition to the school in honor of a much-loved educator.
