Chocolate Chip Cookies

recipe-dessertI know, I know.  Everyone has a favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe.  What makes this recipe my favorite is the butter.  Butter will cause the cookies to spread out on the pan and it helps to keep the cookies soft.  If you use shortening in your cookies, they will not spread out as much and will have a harder, more crumbly texture.  Choose what you like – I like the buttery kind.

Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup white sugar

1 cup butter, softened

2 t vanilla

2 eggs

2 ½ cups flour

1 t baking soda

½ t salt

12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

In a large bowl, mix together sugars, butter, and vanilla until lighter in color and fluffy.  Beat in eggs, one at a time.  Mix in flour, soda, and salt.  Stir in chocolate chips.

Scoop tablespoons of dough and place onto cookie sheet about 2” apart.  Bake 12 minutes until lightly golden.  (Be careful not to over bake or they will not be soft when cooled.)  Remove cookies to a cooling rack.  Store in an airtight container.
