JCHS Distiguished As REWARD SCHOOL By State DOE – In Top 5% For Progress

The State Department of Education has announced the Tennessee Reward Schools for the 2012-2013 school year and Jefferson County High School has been distinguished as a Reward School. Of the 169 schools that were designated as Reward Schools, 70 were for performance, 83 were for progress and 16 were for a combination of performance and progress. Jefferson County High School is one of the top 5 % of schools recognized for their progress during the previous school year. Improvement in student test scores figures heavily in the determination of Reward Schools and acknowledges the upward trend in Jefferson County High School’s scores.

Director of Jefferson County Schools, Dr. Charles Edmonds, expressed his appreciation for Jefferson County Principal Walker and his staff for the hard academic work that is being done at Jefferson County High School and their commitment to academic excellence. Director of Secondary Education for Jefferson County Schools, Ruth Pohlman, stated that Jefferson County High School has made great effort to reach the students where they are academically and help them climb academic hurdles with supplemental programs that address student’s needs.

This is the second year that a Jefferson County school has been named a Reward School, with Maury Middle School making the 2011-2013 list.  Both Director Edmonds and Pohlman offered their congratulations to Jefferson County High School Principal Walker, the students and staff of Jefferson County High School for a job well done.
