Jefferson County Fair Wraps Up With Demolition Derby
Friday night was the annual 4/6 cylinder Demolition Derby at the Jefferson County Fair. The night began with a new event, the Lawn Mower Derby, followed by the Powder Puff Derby and ending with the main event.
While the Lawn Mower Derby only found 4 participants this year, it was a successful first year for the new event. The entrants were Danny Robinson, Gary Robinson, Billy John Cureton and Randy Owens. Danny Robinson walked away with the win.
The Powder Puff Derby is a great event for those girls out there who need to let loose a little. There were three entries this year but the derby was aggressive. Casey Cureton took home the win for this event and also scored as Most Aggressive driver.
The main event is always a big crowd drawer and this one was no exception. There were nineteen entries and four heats involved to select the cars that would move into the main event. Nine cars qualified for the final event and Adam Tolliver worked his way to the top, taking the winning trophy home along with Most Aggressive Driver for the evening.
Tonight was also a special evening for one of the drivers, Billy John Cureton. The Southern Grudge Match Association presented him with a special plaque in recognition of his 25th year as a participant in the derby with his signature pink car.
