Eagles bring home first win on the road in an exhibition match against Patriots

Carson-Newman defeated University of the Cumberlands 8-1 in its first preseason match.

Junior Bailee Wilson (Morristown, Tenn.) started off the goal scoring with a long range shot outside the 18-yard box.

Sophomore Mikayla Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) put two goals in against the Patriots.

Seniors Raquel Pimentel (New Port Richey, Fla.) and Danna Stringle (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) each added a point to the score board. Stringle transferred from Cumberlands as a junior and had an exceptional performance against her old team.

Pimentel has been a star full back for the Eagles the past three seasons. She was moved up to midfield for a shift against the Patriots and further proved her skill by scoring her first collegiate goal.

Three freshmen stood out for Carson-Newman. Erica Deluca (Lake Mary, Fla.), Gabrielle Gianeselli (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Joanna Russell (Miami Lakes, Fla.) all kicked off their college careers with a goal.

The Eagles continue their preseason at home with another exhibition match against Lees-McRae at 5:00 PM on Tuesday.
