Former New Market City Employee Arrested for Two Counts of Theft Over $10k and Official Misconduct

According to information released by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, a former employee of the City of New Market was arrested on August 27, 2013 for two counts of theft over $10,000 and four counts of Official Misconduct. The TBI reported that Melissa Robin Parker, age 43, of New Market surrendered herself to TBI agents. During the period of September 2009 until April 2013, Parker issued $25,000 in checks for work on City equipment that was not requested. In addition, she overpaid herself $13,000 in excess salary and benefits. Parker surrendered to TBI custody at the Jefferson County Jail and she was booked into the jail there on a $20,000 bond. No further information was released from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, however updates will be posted as details of the situation unfold.
