The Jefferson Middle School Elks hosted the White Pine Cyclones for their homecoming game. The game started with the Elks receiving the kick from the Cyclones. Within in the first few minutes of the game the Elks put a touchdown on the board. Continuing to put numbers on the board, they ended the first half with a 21-0 lead over the Cyclones.

The half-time activities this evening began with performances from the JMS Elks Dance Team and Cheerleading Squad followed by the introduction of this year’s homecoming court representatives. There were two girls representing each of the sixth and seventh grades. Six girls were chosen from the eighth grade homerooms and the queen was chosen from those by student body votes. Makayla Wright, daughter of Jeff and Kim Wright, took the title of 2013 Jefferson Middle School Homecoming Queen. She was escorted by Ronald Damron, son of Ronnie and Cynthia Damron. Makayla was presented with a sash and bouquet by football Captain Josh Finchum and crowned by Captain Zane Long. Captains Reece Watkins and Shane Coffey gave her a congratulatory kiss.

Once the queen was crowned the crowd’s attention was called for a special half-time activity. Coming to the field were Allison Belissimo, Twana Mullins and Sarah Hutsell, who are the wives or significant others of the assistant football coaches. They participated in the Dizzy Bat game with the winner receiving a very special prize.

Dustin Whitt, one of the JMS Elks assistant coaches, had a special surprise planned. Little did Sarah Hutsell know that she was to be the winner all along and her prize would be a marriage proposal. After her win, Dustin dropped to one knee and, after giving her time to realize what was happening, asked Sarah to marry him. Everyone erupted in applause when she said yes.

The second half of the game was as productive as the first for the Elks. They played hard until the very end and pulled out a 42-0 homecoming win. This was their last home game at their middle school field. They will host Carter on October 1 at 7:00pm but will be playing that game at Maury’s field due to field lighting.
