Carson-Newman University’s 11th Biennial Art Faculty Exhibition

On Friday, Carson-Newman University held the grand opening of the Omega Gallery to the pubic for an art exhibition. The exhibition of choice was one that is only offered every two years, the faculty exhibition, and all professors are required to keep working in their field and present their work. The faculty exhibition is one that many students and fellow teachers look forward to attending, as it showcases the depth of talent at Carson-Newman. In the past, there has been an astounding collection of pieces, and this year was no different. Apart from the expected drawings, paintings, mixed media, and photography, there was also a modern collection of installation art. Installation art is built “in-to” or “for” the environment. This year’s feature was an arrangement of art furniture. Rather than featuring a “lived-in” feel, these pieces are bright and striking, modern, almost futuristic and well worth viewing. The exhibit features the work of Chad Airhart, Lisa Flanery, Raqel Roy, William Houston, David Underwood, Julie Rabun, and Mark Wankel. Their work, including the magnificent art furniture, will be featured in the Omega Gallery of the Warren Art Building from eight in the morning to four in the afternoon each day. The gallery is only open until October 11th to allow the public the opportunity to view the exhibition.
