Facilities Committee Discussion On JCHS Renovations and Roof Collapse

The Jefferson County Facilities Committee met on Monday, September 9, 2013, in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse.  The meeting was Called to Order by Committee Chairman Turner. Absent from Roll Call were Committee Members Dockery and Tabor.  With a proper Motion and 2nd the Agenda and Minutes were Approved.

No citizens requested appearance before the Committee.

Committee Members were informed that the Hospital Oversight Board released three properties to Jefferson City/Jefferson County. Those properties are 1810 Bishop Avenue in Jefferson City, 107 E. Main Street in Dandridge and 127 W. Old AJ Hwy in Jefferson City.

Upon a Motion from Committee Member Griffith and 2nd from Committee Member Carmichael the Committee Approved Resolutions 2013-18 and 2013-19 encouraging the expansion of the Strawberry Plains Library and authorizing the Jefferson County Mayor to pursue a grant for the Library. The Motion Passed Unanimously.

Director of Business Affairs for Jefferson County Schools Phagan updated the Committee on the renovation at Jefferson County High School and the roof collapse of Building 8. Phagan stated that the renovation is on track and progressing well. The school system and the insurance company are still in negotiations regarding the settlement for the roof collapse and the scope of work that will be included. Both the insurance company and the school system will have individual assessments and bring those to the table to disseminate the settlement amount. Phagan stated that the process is ongoing, however the school structure is sound and safe for students.
