Jefferson County High School juniors that met the National benchmark on their Plan test were honored with a special lunch on Wednesday afternoon. 220 students of 548 that took the test last year were invited to the lunch, which was served by JCHS Guidance Counselors. The Plan test is administered during the sophomore year and is the second test in a three part testing series that students take. Explore is taken during the eighth grade year and tests skills learned in seventh grade. Plan is taken early in the 10th grade year and tests skills learned during the freshman year. The ACT will be administered in the spring of the junior year and considered the college and career readiness exam. Jefferson County High School is promoting good testing skills and test preparation. Last week was Blitz Week at Jefferson County High School and students spent the week preparing for upcoming testing. The also have a Hitting the Lottery program which marks the student’s progress and put the emphasis on making a 21 or better composite on the ACT, which enables students to use the Hope Lottery Scholarship. Dr. Scott Walker, JCHS Principal, has been emphasizing raising test scores for JCHS students and recently released information shows that his programs are working. The reward lunch is just one way that the school plans to recognize students that meet and exceed their testing goals. Dr. Walker said that good test scores mean college money and opportunity for JCHS students and that the goal is to continue to increase scores and give students the skills to hit the educational lottery.
