The Urban Growth Committee held public hearings on the proposed extension of growth boundary lines in Jefferson County on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 and Wednesday, September 11, 2013, in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse. One citizen, Russell Fox, of the Oak Grove Community, addressed the proposed expansion of the Dandridge growth boundaries to include the 424 exit, on Tuesday.  Fox stated his concerns regarding the proposal and his desire to maintain the community in the area in question.

On Wednesday, one citizen, Katie Fox Huffaker, addressed the Committee proposing controlled growth around the exit 424 that would maintain the integrity of the area, which is rich in history. She requested that zoning be investigated that would require that businesses locating in the area meet aesthetic standards, as well as the possibility of promoting tourism in the Oak Grove Community area through historic designation and appropriate business recruitment. In her address, she stated that controlled progress would allow the community to continue to thrive while benefiting Dandridge through increased sales tax.

The County has now met its obligation regarding Public Meetings and has presented an opportunity for interested parties to address the increased growth boundaries issue. The growth boundary lines will go before the full Commission body for approval. There must also be municipality approval to achieve completion of the growth boundary extension.
