Friday, September 27th,  the Jefferson County Patriots traveled to play against the William Blount Governors and brought home a victory with Jefferson County twenty-seven to a William Blount thirteen.

The first quarter started off with the Patriots receiving the ball and scoring the first touchdown of the night within the first thirty seconds of the kickoff. Junior Haney found the end zone with eleven minutes and thirty-five seconds left logging the first seven on the board. William Blount immediately returned with their own touchdown in their first drive with ten minutes twelve seconds left in the quarter, tying the score seven all. On their kickoff William Blount managed to kick an offside kick and recover the ball giving them the opportunity to score another six points. That drive was cut short when Shane Edwards intercepted the ball for Jefferson County, but the Patriots couldn’t convert and had to  punt the ball away. William Blount scored their second and last touchdown of the night with three minutes remaining in the first quarter and the Patriot’s Zach Hubbard blocked the extra point attempt limiting the score to seven to thirteen. Before the quarter was up Malik Styles had an excellent throw to Joey Jenkins for a phenomenal first down.

The second quarter brought the Patriots an interception as Matt Oaks caught the ball to end the drive for William Blount. Giovanni Morales put points on the board for the Patriots when he scored a field goal with barely under eight minutes left in the quarter, score now being ten to thirteen. William Blount’s next drive ended with them failing to get the first down and Jefferson County’s drive ended with a punt. The last drive of the half ended shortly after Noah Carter made an interception for the Patriots.

The Patriots returned from half time with renewed energy and found the end zone twice in the second half. Jones had a forty-five yard carry for one of those touchdowns, and Malik Styles held the other, ending the third quarter with a score of twenty-four to thirteen. The Patriots had the second blocked kick of the night with a punt block by Sean Edwards. Giovanni Morales ending the scoring of the half with a twenty-six yard field goal for a final score of twenty-seven to thirteen.
