Patriots Shut Out Cocke County in Homecoming Game 42-0

Friday, October 4th, was homecoming for the Jefferson County Patriots. The Patriots took on the Cocke County Fighting Cock’s, looking for a victory at Shannon Field.  Jefferson County won the coin toss and declined to kick off first, having Cocke County receive, which they would be defending the north goal.

On Cocke County’s first drive, the Patriots’ Noah Carter cut the drive short with an interception. Malik Styles had a carry in Jefferson County’s first drive for the first of many touchdowns in this game for the Patriots, putting the first seven on the board. Cocke County’s next drive lasted most of the quarter when on fourth down, they played a fake punt pass to complete the first down. They later would have to punt the pigskin away to the Patriots and Jefferson County’s next drive would last until the second quarter.

Jones had a carry in the same drive that would add more Jefferson County points on the board and move the score to 14-0. Cocke County’s next drive would end with a punt and, in the punt return, Jones had a fantastic sixty-seven yard return to up the score to 21-0. Cocke County couldn’t find the end zone and the Patriots received the ball on the punt. Styles had a pass for the next unanswered touchdown to up the score to 28-0. Matt Oak had the second interception of the evening that led to a carry by Styles for another Patriot touchdown, upping the score another 7 points for Jefferson County. Shane Edwards had the third interception of the night, which lead Styles to throw a pass to Joey Jennings for the final score of the game with a score being 42-0 Patriots, thus ending half.

Cocke County kicked off after the half, and Jefferson County brought out Giovanni Morales to punt the ball away. Cocke County was not having a good night for turnovers and they had a fumble that was recovered by Jefferson County but the Patriots could not convert. Cocke County’s last drive of the 3rd ended with a punt and Jefferson County’s next drive carried them into the 4th.

Jefferson County’s drive ended with a punt, giving Cocke County possession of the ball. Despite effort on the part of the visiting team, they could not advance the ball and ended up in another punt situation. The Patriots brought out Giovanni Morales for a field goal attempt that ended short and the ball was back to Cocke County for their final drive of the evening.  The Patriots now have two wins and one loss in the conference and over all record of four wins and two losses. Their next game will find them on the road to neighboring Morristown to take on the Morristown West Trojan’s.
